5/12/24 Report

Just wrapped up a beautiful weekend here on Devils Lake. Yesterday was our first upper 70 degree day and we saw some nice rising water temps to go with it. Both yesterday and today we dealt with a fair amount of wind, but nothing that was unmanageable on the water.

Yesterday, the neighbor boys (7&5) and my boy (5), went fishing in the AM, with the hopes of each boy getting a fish or two. 10 minutes in I hooked up to a nice 20+” walleye, but that would prove to be the only walleye of the day for us. We found several pike to play, but really, kind of a disappointing day. We had fish scattered all over the side imaging, in 5.5-7ft of water that was topping out around 54.5 degrees. We threw mimic minnows, scatter raps and paddle tails, but none got it done.

Today, my boy and I got out late in the afternoon to scout a few new spots. Again, we targeted the 5-8 ft of water range and 54-56 degree water. That recipe lead to marks all over the side imaging. All the walleyes we caught today came on a UV fire tiger mimic minnow and they absolutely crushed it. Along with the walleyes we caught, the pike were active, as we boated north of 10 of those slimers too.

All in all it was a fun weekend and I feel I’m set up well to start guide trips this next weekend. Good luck out there!
