First off, sorry for such a long gap in my reports! Planting season is just finally wrapping up and I have a little chance to take a breath! As we speak, it is blowing 35-40 but that didn’t stop the fish from biting.
Each year, we start off pitching, then mix in some slip bobbers, followed by primarily spinners. That transition usually takes place by the first of June or shortly after, but this year, it is starting to happen now.
Current water temps are as low as 60, up to 70. The warmest water has the most active fish, but I’d argue some of the nicest keeper fish have come out of the colder water. Current tactics are to pitch 6-8 ft, until you find active fish. Once you’re on them, hit the school with slip bobbers and leeches. Otherwise, work 8-20ft with spinners. Yes, that’s a wide range, but we are finding fish throughout those depths. Not one depth seems to be key.
The best bite is yet to come! The lake is extremely clear right now, but should cloudy up very quickly with the warm temps in the forecast. I’m thinking by next weekend, our days will go from good, to lights out. See some pics below from a couple of our latest trips.

We’re looking at fishing with Varilek Guide Service early to mid-August… the bite should still be strong?
