She was steamy, but the fish are biting! Got out for a couple hours today and we were on good fish from the start. We had our keepers in the live well in less than 30 minutes!
The first 10 minutes we tried pulling spinners, but on the Livescope, you could see the fish follow but then would turn away. We quickly switched gears and slip bobbered and drop-shotted leeches on the same spot. Doubles were happening left and right and we stacked em up quick.
We found fish in 7-11ft, relating to timber and rocky areas. the best bite today was found in 70-72 degree water, which I’d expect virtually everywhere to be to that temp and higher by tomorrow afternoon.
Below I’ve got a picture of my drop shot rig as that may be completely new to some of you. Although it is extremely popular with bass fisherman, it’s not been as popular with walleye fisherman. I personally love it as it keeps the bait in the zone I want it from the start of the cast until it hits my reel again. To keep it simple I use a VMC spin shot hook with a VMC tungsten drop shot cylinder weight. I like to cast this out and slowly retrieve while producing a slight jig action by giving the line little bits of slack. If you have any questions on this technique, please ask!
I received a couple messages from people not quite understanding the dropshot rig I have pictured. I just added a rough diagram that helps explain it. The only difference between the diagram and my set up is I use 17lb fluro and a VMC spinshot hook which I tie directly to.
