Major cold front hit our region on Friday, but brought much needed rain, with it. We received 1/2 inch of rain right in town! Not much for our level of dryness, but we will take what we can get. This cold front pushed our water temps down 4-6 degrees in the matter of 48 hours. Not knowing what this did to the bite (I feared the worst), we started where we left off last week.
We focused on south Six Mile again and were pleasantly surprised at what we found. As you’ve seen on my previous reports, pike have been very numerous and at times irritating. That was not the case today! This first 6 fish in the boat were walleyes, today. We focused on 2-6ft of water, with rocks/tree’s in the vicinity. In addition, the area we started had whitecaps pounding into the shore.
We are continuing to use #7 Scatter Raps, with most colors producing fish. The walleyes have been aggressive, and many times completely inhaling the lure, getting deep into their gills. Right now, I do not recommend fishing this way and not keeping the walleyes. Too many of these fish are not going to make it due to the harm caused in their gills.
Best bite was mid-afternoon and died off once the wind really started to pick up out of the north. Plenty of nice fish in the Six Mile area to target!
